Sherry Macleod, nee Sherry Richmond, is the designer and maker of Fawn Ceramics tiles and pottery.
Sherry moved to Toronto from New York City in 2003. She is currently running a full time pottery studio and showroom in Toronto’s Historic Distillery District.
While living and working in New York City Sherry worked in the fashion and art world. She moved to New York from her home in London, England shortly after graduating with a BA Honours from Central St Martins College of Art and Design in 1995.
While living in New York, Sherry worked as a fashion forecaster and journalist. She travelled around the world extensively researching apparel and design trends in order to develop colour palettes and seasonal design inspiration. Sherry would make design presentations to major textile mills, apparel and home furnishings manufacturers and press in cities across North America, South America, The Far East and Europe.
In addition some of the other inspirational and highly engaging employment positions Sherry has held have been as Casting Director & Fine Art Curator for world renowned photographer Sheila Metzner. Sherry has worked at Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine. Sherry is a published author, The Voice of a Generation, Rosen Publishing New York, published 1999 and has been writing freelance for magazines in the UK, New York and Canada since 1992.
Since art college one of Sherry’s favourite mediums was clay. She has been making sculptures since 1990 and feels its like a coming home to be working with clay full time. The fashion industry and her life experiences all add unique perspective to the way she handles her medium and Sherry’s travels around the world are a constant inspiration to her in her work.
In addition to continuing to create her functional hand built and thrown pottery as well as her ever growing collection of unique art tiles, Sherry hopes to explore larger sculptural pieces that will incorporate her writing. Her hope is to show an already designed room installation of 6-8 ft high ceramic sculptures with hand carved mural tile walls as backdrop in order to tell a story in 3D. Galleries that will show the installation will be posted on the website as they are confirmed.
