Whether you are installing tiles yourself or are hiring a professional we hope you will find the following information useful.
Part of the charm of hand made tiles is their irregular shape and variation in thickness. These variations should be embraced during installation. Here are some recommendations to make the process easier.
DRY FIT YOUR TILES FIRST.
Lay out the pattern on a flat surface to judge exactly how much grout space you will require. We recommend you plan on 3/8” grout spacing. This will allow for the maximum flexibility in spacing your tile and will insure your installation will fit within specific space requirements.
If there are thickness variations (which is a desirable effect of our hand made process) note this when you dry fit. You will have to adjust how much mortar you use and either add or subtract to adjust for variations in thickness.
Installing your tiles can be a fun and creative experience in itself. We hope you enjoy the process!
